Land of the Leopard National Park has launched the Leopard Tour project, under which the park's symbol, a cardboard figure of the Far Eastern leopard, will travel to protected areas to show the beauty and integrity of Russia's wildlife system. The project is timed for the Day of Nature Reserves and National Parks, which is marked in Russia on 11 January.
The cardboard Far Eastern leopard is to appear in 2019 on the social networking pages of nature reserves and national parks with the hashtag #LeoTour, starting with the Far East Marine Reserve, where Far Eastern leopards were previously reported.
"It is not an expensive project, but one with a noble mission, which we hope our colleagues will support. Although located far away from each other, our nature reserves and national parks have common goals. We can help each other achieve them by exchanging experience at seminars and though personal communication. The symbol of this project is a rare animal whose population started growing thanks to the protected areas. The Far Eastern leopard figure can become a mascot of the areas it will tour," said Viktor Bardyuk, director of Vorontsov Land of the Leopard.
There are 110 nature reserves, 56 national parks and 60 federal wildlife sanctuaries in Russia.
