The Far Eastern leopardess Rona and the male leopard Velikoross will be released together in the big leopard park at Primorye Safari Park. Curators of the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria (EAZA)'s Far Eastern leopard breeding programme gave permission to breed the animals, the park's website reads.
"They walked in the big park in turns. Recently, we got permission to breed them from the curators of the Far Eastern leopard breeding programme on condition that the offspring stays at Primorye Safari Park. Very soon these beautiful cats will walk in the enormous park together," said Dmitry Mezentsev, director of Primorye Safari Park.
Primorye Safari Park is a participant in EAZA's Far Eastern leopard breeding programme. The programme curators recommend certain leopards for breeding from different zoos after studying their breeding background. This helps maintain the genetic diversity of the population of these predators in captivity.
