Dmitry Stroyev from the village of Vakhrushi, Kirov Region, took first place in the "Leopard's Leap" video competition, with Mikhail Baulin of St Petersburg and Alexei Kuznetsov of Moscow finishing out the top three. The winner was revealed at the finals of the VTB United League Championship during a break between the CSKA-UNICS games on 3 June. Now the young basketballer will travel to the Russian Far East to see the Far Eastern leopard Buba, the League's mascot.
"The Far Eastern Leopards autonomous non-profit organisation and the VTB United League have been associated for a long time. We have a real leopard, Buba, and his double is here. And we've held this special competition. The winner will be awarded a free trip to Vladivostok," the Honorary President of the League and Chair of the Far Eastern Leopards Supervisory Board, Sergei Ivanov, said at the nomination ceremony.
The "Leopard's Leap" competition was sponsored by the Far Eastern Leopards autonomous non-profit organisation and the VTB United League. Competition applicants had to submit a video of themselves performing a "leopard's leap," a jump of some kind, and upload it to their social network account. Dmitry Stroyev of Vakhrushi did not expect his basketball trick-shot video to be the best. "I've played basketball since my second year at school. I live in a small village but we have a good basketball school. I play for my school team, which is part of the school basketball league, KES-Basket. This year we finished seventh." Competition participants uploaded videos to their social network accounts with the hashtag #leopardshot (#бросоклеопарда).
