Basketball fans have given a name to the Far Eastern leopard that until recently was designated simply Leo 29M. The leopard serves as the mascot for the VTB United League (basketball). The name, Buba, was announced during a halftime break in the finals game between CSKA and Khimki. Just as during any other basketball game held under the Return of the Leopard slogan, players had the Far Eastern Leopards autonomous non-profit organisation logo on their warm-up suits, while sports fans could take pictures with the mascot and win prizes from VTB United League and the Far Eastern Leopards autonomous non-profit organisation.
Voting to find a name for the flecked mascot got underway on 1 May, and anyone could suggest a name using the social network accounts created for this purpose. Leo 29M could have been named Felix, Ross, Amur, Basket, Pobeditel (Winner), Leon, Timka, Jumpy or Yerofei. But most basketball fans voted for Buba.
Buba's season does not end with the finals of the VTB United League. On 6 June, the mascot will take part in an environmental protection event at Sokolniki Park in Moscow. An improvised basketball court will be used at the event, offering everyone an opportunity to show their sports skills and compete for prizes. Basketball star Ilona Korstin and Buba will hold a basketball workshop.
