The Far Eastern leopard coded as Leo 29M on the national park list has been selected to be the live mascot of the VTB United League (basketball). The contest to name him got underway on 1 May. Anyone can suggest a name by placing it after the hashtag #LEO29 on social networks, and voters will choose what they like best.
"The leopard, a five-year-old male, was chosen because he has the makings of a basketball star — springy, agile, quick on the uptake, and able to grasp the situation at once on the basketball court — I mean his hunting grounds, a considerable area of 10 square kilometres. "I hope he will be given a proud, high-sounding name to bring him luck, and that he will prosper and have numerous offspring," Sergei Ivanov, VTB United League Honorary President and Chair of the Supervisory Board of the Far Eastern Leopards autonomous non-profit organisation, said at a news conference dedicated to the league playoffs.
The social network page dedicated to the event specifies the voting rules.
