Katyusha is a curious and active Far Eastern leopardess in her prime. She loves leaving selfies for scientists and has been captured by trail cameras in both Russia and China quite a few times. However, she prefers to raise her offspring at Land of the Leopard National Park: in 2014, Leo 55F was spotted in the park accompanied by a cub.
In December 2017, the leopardess got a keeper, a group of young women studying at the Moscow military school, the MOD Girls' Boarding School, who named her Katyusha.
In addition to being the name of a multiple rocket launcher, Katyusha, or Katya, is one of the most popular names at the girls' boarding school, while the famous song Katyusha is its unofficial anthem.
Interestingly, there is a monument to Yekaterina Alekseyeva, the first woman to receive the Order of the Red Star, in Vladivostok. She is believed to have inspired Matvei Blanter and Mikhail Isakovsky to write this legendary song.
