Siberian Coal Energy Company (SUEK), the largest coal producer in Russia and one of the leading coal mining companies in the world, comprises coal extraction, coal treatment, transport and maintenance firms in seven Russian regions.
Having an environmentally friendly approach is one of SUEK’s top business priorities. In September 2015, SUEK General Director Vladimir Rashevsky took part in a charity auction held on the sidelines of the Eastern Economic Forum and won the right to give a name to Leo 42M, an unnamed Far Eastern leopard.
The company organised a contest to choose the best name for Leo 42M and urged its employees and their families to come up with suggestions. Several hundred names were submitted, including Zaboi (mine pit), Ugolyok (ember), Stakhanov (a legendary Soviet-era miner), Rotor, Urgal, Schastlivchik (fortunate) and Olympyi. The name Aman, in honour of Kemerovo Region Governor Aman Tuleyev, received the most votes.
