Far Eastern leopards win two categories in Camera Trap 2017 contest

Far Eastern leopards won two categories in the Camera Trap 2017 third national contest. A shot of Queen Borte and her cub was taken at Land of the Leopard National Park last autumn and won the Best Photo of a Leopard category. The video of the leopardess Bary with her litter from a cave in the Kedrovaya Pad Nature Reserve won the Cats category.

"The fact that pictures taken at Land of the Leopard National Park are among the winners speaks volumes about the high skills of its employees working with camera traps. This is meticulous work, because they not only have to guess where a leopard will appear, but to go there themselves, and not everybody can do that," said Yelena Gangalo, general director of the Far Eastern Leopards autonomous non-profit organisation.

The Camera Trap 2017 third national contest took place on 10 May-25 December 2017. The award ceremony will be held on 26 January 2018 at the opening of the fifth Russia's Primeval Nature festival in Moscow.

Last year, a picture of the leopard Typhoon won the Camera Trap contest. In 2015, an image of the Far Eastern leopard Okhotsk took a prize. Far Eastern Leopards is one of the contest's strategic partners.
